In her eighteen years of experience in the field of psychology, Dr. Ghanem-Ybarra has developed a non-judgmental, strength based approach to psychotherapy. She works collaboratively with her clients, taking into consideration his/her desire for interaction with family members or other professionals in his/her life. She also works with her clients to develop goals throughout therapy, giving periodic feedback on the progress and changes that have taken place and making alterations in the goals as necessary for them to maintain an awareness of their progress in sessions, as well as in everyday life.
Dr. Ghanem-Ybarra’s humanistic and existential philosophy and approach to working with couples, families, adults and/or teens is based on her strong belief that everyone is capable of change to the extent that the change is desired. Her work in psychotherapy includes helping clients to increase/enhance their belief in themselves, take stock of their own abilities and recognize that they have choices. She encourages those with whom she works to draw on their existing coping skills and abilities, and through the therapy/therapeutic process, build on those skills to help them achieve the changes they seek.
Using a holistic (mind, body, spirit), existential, and cognitive/behavioral approach to working with many issues, Dr. Ghanem-Ybarra teaches relaxation and meditation exercises. She also utilizes stress inoculation, communication exercises, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and Brainspotting to process disturbing, stressful events, and traumas of a variety of intensities.
"I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These are your greatest treasures.
Simple in actions and in thoughts..."
